Sharing is caring!
Hello Sugar Bee Readers! I’m Nancy from Do Small Things with Love, back again this month to share another wonderful FELT project: Zippered Felt Pouch with Hexagon Embellishment. One thing you need to know about me is that when I fall in love, I fall in love hard. That’s what happened with felt (I’m obsessed) and that is what is slowly happening with hexagons…oh, and it happened with my husband, but that seems like a long time ago!!! But, I really am falling for hexagons. When it comes to shapes I try not to have a favorite, but if I did, it’d be hexagons! In fact, I used hexagons in a recent contributor post here.
Today’s project is really simple, especially if you have made a simple pouch before. Because both I and Mandy have posted tutorials for making pouches, I’m going to skip over that part of the tutorial and instead send you to THIS POST for a how-to.
After you have made your pouch (I made mine with wool felt, but you can make yours out of any solid colored fabric that can be ironed) it is time to add some simple HEXAGON embellishments.
Supplies Needed:
- Colorful Scrap Fabric
- Iron-On Heat Bond (sold at Craft Stores, and even Walmart, in the sewing section)
- Iron
- Hexagon Template (I used THIS ONE from Mollie over at Wild Olive)
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Take your scraps of colorful fabric and iron on Heat-Bond to the back. Now, if you have yet to work with Heat Bond, this is some cool stuff. It acts like glue that you activate with the heat of an iron. When you iron it onto the back of the fabric there will be a paper side.
- Next, take the template and cut out several hexagons.
- Then, peal off the paper from the back of each hexagon, arrange as desired on each side of your pouch and iron in place. I recommend ironing down one hexagon at a time. Since hexagons have straight edges any thing not straight will stick out like a sore thumb.
Here’s a close-up of the finished pouch. I love using heat bond because it allows me to add embellishment without spending hours stitching! Yay!
If you have yet to give hexagons and Heat Bond a try, it’s time! You are going to fall in love, just as I did!
Thanks again to Mandy for having me here so much! I love stopping by and sharing a little something, and Mandy has been such a terrific mentor. I just love her and her blog, don’t you?
