Felt Coin Purse

Hello Sugar Bee Craft Readers! It’s Nancy from www.dosmallthingswithlove.com back once again this month to share yet another felt creation: Felt Coin Purse. I am extra excited to be here this month because just a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Mandy, and several of the other contributor to this site, in person at the SNAP! conference. It was incredible, and Mandy really is as sweet and wonderful in real-life as she seems to be here on her blog.

As you may know by know, I have a thing for felt. It is the easiest material ever to work with and it comes in an endless amount of colors. I think this is why I just can’t help to continue to come up with more and more felt creations!

I’m excited about the project I am sharing with you today because it is as simple as it is cute, and it is soooo simple! This Felt Coin Purse can be pulled together in a matter of minutes and requires very few supplies. Ready to get at it? Here is what you will need:

Colorful Felt (I used wool Felt)
Clear Packing Tape
Template
Sewing Machine and Thread
Snap or Button

As usual, and because I like thing nice and simple myself, I have created a free template for this project. To download and print your own template just follow the link found below the image. You can print this out of just regular printer paper.

Once you have the template printed, follow these steps to complete your felt coin purse:

Cut out the pieces: When working with felt you don’t have to finish the edges, so you want as clean and precise of a cut as possible. For this reason I don’t use pins while cutting, instead I use clear packing tape, as pictured above.
Sew on the pocket.
Fold the large piece of felt in half, so that the pocket is on top and the top flap is behind. Pin in place and sew up each side of the coin purse.
Add a snap or button. Note here–it isn’t the easiest thing to get a snap into felt–I actually ruined a purse when the snap pulled through. However, putting a button in is very simple. To create a button whole all you have to do is cut a small opening–no finishing is required because, after all, we are working with felt!

And, I just wanted to quickly mention that since I was using such fun colors of felt for this project I decided to use some fun thread too! I had all of these great colors to choose from, thanks to Pick Your Plum!
