As promised, another tutorial to a handmade item found on my Red and Green BLING tree – – circle garland!
Garland is so hard to take pictures of – especially a glittery one. But know that this is awesome!! With my theme of glittery red and green and silver, when I saw the paper on sale at Michael’s I just knew it would go on my tree. So pretty! (and on sale – bonus!)
Other than the paper, you’ll just need a circle punch and some twine/yard/etc and some regular ole glue. My punch is 1 1/2 inches, but I’m sure any size will work. Now, let me warn you – this paper is THICK! The fine-glitter paper cut pretty well, but I had a really hard time cutting this large sequin-style paper:
It would jam up the punch about every time. And it was so hard to push – I was working up a sweat, using all the muscles I had! (I know, that’s not that many, but still…) So, in hindsight, I’d just stick with the fine-glitter paper instead of trying to mix in different types.
So, punch a bunch of circles – –
Then layout your twine. Grab 2 circles, put a line of glue on one, place it under the twine and then put glue on top of the twine, like so:
Then take the second circle and place it on top of the bottom circle. That’s it! Because my twine was so thick, the circles leaned to one side. I just went with it, and I even ended up putting a dab of glue where they leaned together to make it extra secure:
Then just keep on going until you have a long strand of awesomeness:
Garland in the store can be really pricey – I love this alternative!
If you love garland, here are some others I’ve made that you could easily change to holiday colors (just click the titles to see the full tutorial posts on that project)
Garlands are so fun! I want to make one for every holiday! (hint hint, I just made a “thankful” one this week – that’s coming soon!)
