It’s that time of year! The organization bug kicks in – and I’m betting there are more than a few of you out there that have a garage in need of some organizational help asap. My brother recently added some awesome DIY Garage Storage Cabinets and took some pictures to share the step-by-step process with everyone, wahoo!
So I’ll try to interpret the pics for you, but you can probably just read into them for yourself.
DIY Garage Storage Cabinets
First up, frame up the floor and line the area with plywood. These shelves are heavy-duty and ready to hold any type of garage stuff, so they need to be sturdy.
Next up, frame in each individual locker area:
To protect from moisture and pests, he was sure to caulk and seal each seam and all gaps. Nothing can transfer from one locker to another.
Lockers can have a variety of heights of shelving, etc, customized to hold what you need. Stroller, outside play equipment, gun safe, anything!
He painted the frame and doors to finish off the look:
And voila! Amazing, huge, sturdy, garage locker storage that you can make yourself – –

The closet looks great, indeed! It also looks really handy! My garage is such a mess everything stands on top of each other and there is barely any space left for the car! I think a closet like this will make everything much easier! Thanks for the post!

Do you have dimensions on your materials that were required to build this? Looks great!!!
Mandy Beyeler says
sorry, I don’t have them since my brother completed the build – next time I’ll have him be sure to note dimensions!

Storage cabinets are something that should not be overlooked in garages. This one in particular is especially well made.

My daughter has a long cupboard in her garage that has sliding doors on it. Unfortunately they keep coming off and she is tired of trying to put them back. Does anyone have any suggestions on a different way to put doors on this as it is quite large? There should be three sliding doors and the cupboard is from floor to ceiling and is probably about 12 feet long. It gives her plenty of shelf storage but the sliding doors are getting her down.

This is awesome Mandy.
Love the storage cabinets. Not only they are functional, but they look very aesthethically pleasing as well:-)

This is great. Plan on using this on a current project. What did you use as the cabinet doors, plywood cut to size???

Hi, I LOVE what you’ve done! I am so going to do this in my garage. Could you tell me an estimate on how much the materials cost for this project? I know it may be different but just an idea of what materials for your size, cost will give me an idea. As well as what did you use for the doors? Thanks for sharing!

One of the best ideas I’ve had so far for storage on a shelf under a workbench is to build a full extension sliding tray. It allows you to use the entire space and easily access the stuff in the back.
For your parts/hardware bin. Use hot glue to glue a sample to the outside. Makes it quick and easy to find/reference. I want to get a storage bin system where I can do that. All nut bins will have a hole drilled in the front with the nut glued over it so I can test fit unknown hardware for size and thread pitch. For bolts I’ll also have a hole but I’ll hot glue a representative shorter version through to test fit and pitch, but also glue a full size one horizontally for a quick reference length.

Great post! I like our family clean up time to be before 5 when my husband comes home from work. I think he deserves to come to a tidy house. I also like to follow a cleaning schedule. Monday is bathrooms & glass, Tues – vacuum, Wed – dust, etc. It is always good to read what works for others. As a family of 7, I am always looking to improve things around the house.

I really like seeing the look of these garage cabinets. It does seem like you would be able to fit a lot of things in there. My father has a lot of stuff in his garage and I want to find some way to declutter his house. It does seem like a good thing to get an expert to help him get some cabinets in his garage.
