String Art on a Wood Slice?! This is what happens when all the cool crafts get together to make an ornament. I make an ornament every year, and this is one of my most favorite yet! I love it so much that I’ve already shared it on Instagram AND did a live video on how to make it, so you can image that I’m super excited to be able to finally share it here on the blog. I think that 2016 has been the year of string art, so it was fun to incorporate that into the Wood Slice String Art Ornament.
yes, I went a little crazy – after I made mine, I had to make a few more for friends. And that house one – I kind of wanted to keep it for myself cause it’s so cute! It’s their first year in a new home, which of course needs commemorated in ornament form.
Ornament Challenge
This project is my entry as part of a blogger ornament challenge with Espressions Vinyl – you know that I can’t say no to a craft challenge!!
Wood Slice String Art Ornament
You’ll need:
–wood slice (I bought mine at Michaels)
–small nails
–black paint
–vinyl decal ( get all my vinyl from Expressions Vinyl)
I’ve got a VIDEO TUTORIAL that will walk you through step-by-step on how to make this, but a quick overview:
–Paint your wood slice black. Leave a rim of natural wood. Let dry.
–Apply adhesive vinyl. I cut the decal on my Silhouette, and I know you’ll ask, the font is Better Together (one of my current favorites!) and the snowflake was in the Silhouette online store.
–Determine where you want the nails to go (I pre-drilled them, but this wood is really soft and that was completely unnecessary)
–Nail the nails.
–Wrap the string.
–Hot glue twine and ribbon as a hanger. Cover with a piece of ribbon to make the back look pretty.
–Voila!!!
As mentioned, the video tutorial goes into tons more detail, so you won’t want to miss that! If you love handmade ornaments, you might also love:
