Hi!! Today I’m going to give you a few tips to use when you’re taking portraits.
Just a few little things that can help make your pictures look more professional and help to flatter for your subjects.
1. Chin down
Make sure that your subject isn’t lifting their chin too high. A slightly lowered chin is more flattering and makes their jaw line more visible. As you’re doing this make sure that their chin is out, slightly away from the neck, so they aren’t giving themselves a double chin.
2. Bend and turn.
Taking a picture of your subject standing straight and square with the camera isn’t flattering. This has an easy fix- simply have your subject slightly turn so they are at an angle with the camera and have them bend their knees and arms. The angles are much more flattering than the straight “board” look.
As you can see, even with a super thin girl like her, the second image (where she is bending her arm) is more flattering than the first image.
3. Don’t shoot from below
More often than not, it is much more flattering to shoot your subject from above rather than below. Nobody wants to be looking up your subject’s nose. Looking down at the camera can also give your subject an unwanted double chin.
Have fun with these little tips and let me know how you’re doing with your photography!
