It’s that time of year – the Dream Tree Challenge!! This year I went with a bright vintage vibe and it resulted in this awesome Pink Vintage Christmas Tree that I’m pretty much in love with! This Dream Tree Challenge is a fun part of my participation in the Michael’s Makers Blogger Team, all opinions are my own.
It all started with the Merry Memories line at Michaels, then one thing led to another and next thing you know I’m spray painting a Christmas Tree pink!! I really love how it turned out and and wish that you could come see it in person – pink perfection!
Here some images so you can pin this idea for later!
Also, I’ll give you some tips on painting your tree, so here’s something to pin to remind you of that too:
Merry Memories – Bright Nostalgic Holiday Decor
I really love the Merry Memories collection at Michaels this year – it has such a fun, bright vibe to it while still bringing that nostalgic, vintage feel. These ornaments grabbed me right away and it’s what I based the whole scene off of – the pink in the ornaments is what led me to paint the tree pink! Aren’t they amazing?! Michaels holiday decor collections make it easy to find your holiday style and bring your vision to life! From the perfect tree and trimmings to creative gifts and DIY supplies, Michaels has all the ingredients to create wonder-filled memories for family and friends.
The ornaments are definitely the star of the show, I didn’t want to use too much else on the tree so that they could really stand out. I grabbed some fun garland in pinks and some simple silver ball ornaments, but really left it for the vintage ornaments to take center stage:
It was so fun how the whole line of Merry Memories coordinated and played off each other – it took the guess work out of trying to figure out what would look great together, because it all went and coordinated so well!
This advent calendar was especially awesome – but you know that I’m weak for advent calendars!
I loved the signs as well!
How to make a yarn wall hanging
You know that I have to work in a DIY craft project into holiday decor – I knew I needed a large wall hanging, so DIY to the rescue!
To make your own, you’ll need:
-yarn in desired colors
I cut yarn to twice the length of what I wanted the finished project. I used bunches of 8 strands of yarn. I folded the bunch in half and looped it over the dowel rod and pulled it through the loop, so it formed its own knot over the dowel.
I put a cloth over the yarn strands and ironed them to smooth them out a little. I left the bottom a little more wavy because I liked the texture that it added to the piece.
I then used the yarn wall art as a background to hang the stockings. The stockings are hanging from hooks that I attached to the wall through the yarn, just on hooks that stick to the wall.
How to paint a Christmas Tree
This actually isn’t my first time painting a Christmas tree 😉 I just love adding that unexpected pop of color!! This is the first though that I used spray paint, and it went great! A few things you’ll want to note:
–if your tree is prelit, use cut straws to cover the lights (so they don’t get covered in paint)
–If your tree isn’t white already, you’ll want to spray it with a white primer, that will help your color pop. If your tree is already white, you’re good to go! Just jump right in!
–Once you’ve sprayed it once, move the branches around and get all the spots that were hiding.
–I used 2 cans of spray paint on this pencil tree. I maybe could have gotten away with 1 can, but I made sure to get everywhere really well.
It turned out SO GREAT – the perfect shade of pink to pull out all those vintage pops of fun colors.
Merry Memories Line at Michaels Stores
All the cuteness!! I love how the lines are all clustered together to help you pick out everything you need right there in one stop.
And don’t forget about other sections that aren’t holiday – like the yarn!! And the spray paint!! Love that you can grab all the craft supplies to support the DIY projects that go along with the decor.
What is your favorite part about it all?? Let me know!
