It’s coming right up – need a Mother’s Day gift idea?? Yesterday I showed ya a fun crafty flower project – today it’s real flowers! Love this Mother’s Day Vase. You know that I love love love cutting vinyl – it’s my favorite thing to cut with my Silhouette. I almost always get my vinyl from Expressions Vinyl (affiliate link, but I really love them – head over to stock up on vinyl, that’s what I do) – I think they have the best deal around. You can totally cut your own decal by hand with scissors if you keep it simple (like a heart or something) but today I have a quick tutorial on this 5 minute project using my Silhouette.
Mother’s Day Vase
Let’s jump right in. Since I’m aiming for a 5 minute project, I went ahead and picked a pre-designed shape instead of trying to make one of my own. I liked this #1 mom ribbon. I also this idea is great for a teacher appreciation gift, just make a teacher decal instead of a mom one. Back to the mom decal – it was a 2-color design, so it would cut in pieces as shown below, but I just layered it together and then peeled away the negative space so it’s monochromatic.
I love that this is the gift that keeps on giving – – the vinyl can be peeled off and the vase can be repurposed time and time again if you want. I grabbed the vase at the thrift store – it’s like a random vase mecca. I swear I donate my old vases I have no use for, then I go and buy them up again when I think of a project 😉
Next comes transfer tape – it goes on the top of your design and holds everything in place while you transfer it to your project. Well, my transfer tape is packed away, oops. So I rigged up some masking tape – not ideal, but it worked okay, so if you’re in a pinch, there’s an idea for ya.
Then move the design to the jar and rub the vinyl into place.
Then remove the transfer tape, er, masking tape, and voila! See, 5 minute project (love those!!)
I love how the negative space is the wording – so fun!! Not too overdone:
Then just pick some flowers (weeds??) from the yard and bam, gift ready for giving.

That vase looks super cute!! You’re making me want to get out my cutting machines again (I have a Craft Robo – which I got way before I knew what the Silhouette was).
