Hello Sugar Bee Crafts Readers! I am totally psyched to be part of this Guest Post Extravaganza!
Look what I have for you!
Gorgeous, right?!?! But first . . .
Who Am I?
I’m Amanda over at The Ivy Cottage Blog! DIY, crafts, and decor are my passion . . . blogging has become my new obsession. You will find some crazy awesome tutorials over at The Ivy Cottage Blog. My favorites include DIY Large Craft Table, Slim Line Wall Mounted Bookcase, and a fantastic Z Gallerie Mirror Knock Off. I hope you will stop by and be inspired!
On to the tutorial! I saw this lovely runner at IKEA for a fantastic $4.99. Woo Hoo! But it needed a touch of home. Here is how I went about the transformation!
Materials:
* IKEA Runner or one of your choice
* Burlap ribbon (You can get this at Michael’s in the floral section)
* Buttons
* Red embroidery thread and needle
* Sewing machine
* Straight pins
Step #1: Lay out runner and cut four burlap strips that are longer than the runner. Make sure that they overlap one another at the corners.
Step #2: Use straight pins to secure burlap to runner all the way around.
Step #3: Use a zig zag stitch in a coordinating thread color to stitch burlap to runner. Trim off excess burlap ribbon and then zig zag stitch around the outside edge of all of the burlap ribbon.
Step #4: Arrange buttons into a snowflake pattern on the four corners of the runner. At this point, you can either hot glue them or stitch them in place. I opted to stitch them because I liked the look of the red thread in the center of the white buttons. Beware . . . it took a long time to hand stitch all of the buttons on.
Step #5: Add additional buttons sporadically around the burlap border.
Voila!
I love how this pattern has such a clean and easy look without being overwhelmingly Christmas.
LOVE that red stitching!
Check out that lovely button! I got a bunch of these buttons from garage sales. It feels good that they are now incorporated into something so pretty.
The contrast of the sleek buttons and the rough burlap makes me crazy!
Thanks so much for having me, Mandy! And to all of the lovely readers . . . come on by The Ivy Cottage Blog to say hello!
