When I saw this North Pole Sign from Fynes Designs, I knew I had to make one for myself! So so cute – and so I did 😉 Using her free cut file (go to her site to grab it), I was able to use my Silhouette Machine and cut out a stencil to make a DIY North Pole Sign.
I used leftover oak flooring pieces and just wood-glued them together – the boards were kinda rough, and had knot holes, etc, but I went with it 😉 The board ended up being pretty good size – maybe 11x17ish? I painted it white and then let that dry. Then took the stencil that I had cut out of vinyl and stuck it to the board. Then I painted over it. I probably should have taken pictures… I was too excited to jump right in to the project! Then I let it dry overnight and peeled off the stencil in the morning. Then I sanded over everything to give it a more worn look.
I placed the whole stencil a little lower on my board, not centered, because I knew I wanted to make a little garland for the top. I whipped up some mini pom poms (wrapped yarn around a fork) and strung those on to twine. Done and done. I love it!!

This is such a darling sign! Very nice job! I had a question. Have you moved away from using the mod podge over the stencil like on the family name sign? Have you noticed a difference? Thanks! 🙂

I actually did use the mod podge, but then I thought the top layer of paint didn’t stick quite as well as I wanted it to – I think because I used “gloss” mod podge – – so anyways, I wasn’t sure why, but in a few spots, the top layer of paint wanted to come up when I took the stencil off – – but the lines are sure nice and crisp!!
