Did you know that Michael’s named Denim the Craft Trend of 2015?? I’m excited, because I love denim! Denim has always been a wardrobe staple and now it’s emerging in crafts and home décor. From denim paint, ribbon, tape and even pockets, the material will be found in a variety of new craft and home décor supplies.
I love the fun of denim accents in home decor, and put together a simple accent pillow. This is my project as part of the denim challenge for the Michaels Makers team – –
If you’re looking for some spring project inspiration, take a look at Michaels’ new Make Market line for DIY project and home décor ideas – all made with simple, on-trend surfaces and textures like chalk, denim, galvanized, burlap and cork. That new Market area at the store is so fun – check it out:
And then let’s jump right in to the tutorial – – I picked up denim flowers, a banner kit, and a pillow (yes, they have that too! I was going to sew one up, but this was so much easier!) from Michaels:
I love the texture on the flowers, and they have a ton to choose from. They come with clips on the back, which is super convenient.
I also made a quick banner too – – the kit comes with precut denim hearts, then you’ll need a white paint marker and some twine:
I used the marker to hand-write letters on the hearts, then used hot glue to attach them to the twine:
That was it for the banner – easy peasy!
Back to the pillow – again, I used hot glue to attach the flowers to the pillow. I glued it right on the clip part.
That was all there was to it! I love the fun accent that was achieved so easily:
Pops of denim are just awesome in home decor – I’m sold!
{Michaels Makers readers are getting the inside scoop on an upcoming craft contest that will send one lucky participant on the trip of a lifetime to Paris. Check back on my blog March 2 to get all the details on how to enter.}
Be sure to check out what other Michaels Makers created for this challenge!

Denim is the most resilient material. Apparently it was invented by Genoese sailors in the 1500’s, imagine that! What would we do without it? Thanks for sharing.
no kidding, what would we do without it?!!?
Hi just come across this post via pinterest. Glad to hear denim is on trend. I love using denim, I save old jeans and make loads of stuff with them from quilts to covering chairs to purses. I love the robustness of the fabric and all those shades of indigo.
What great denim ideas! I had no idea some of these things are sold in stores, or that denim was a crafting trend.
