I love this fun idea – Santa Cam!! It’s an ornament that mimics a camera, recording all the naughty and nice things happening around the house. It’s easy to make and I have a few tips and tricks for you, wahoo! This Santa Cam Ornament Idea is one that you can share with friends – wouldn’t it make a fun craft club project to do as a group?! Tips for Putting Vinyl on an Ornament
–Round surfaces are TRICKY for vinyl application. I HIGHLY recommend getting the blank ornaments with a flatter front. That is what I used – they look round, but they’re not, and they’re SO much easier to work it. Having that disc-shaped ornament will make the project 10 times easier and prevent a lot of project frustration.
–When placing your decal, start in the center and work your way out. It’s okay if the transfer tape gets wrinkly – you’re wanting to make sure your decal doesn’t get wrinkles, so that’s your focus. And if it does get a wrinkle, it’s okay, it gives it that handmade touch 😉
–The dots of white and red are small enough that you can hand place them without transfer tape.
I don’t have any in-process pics since I was doing the project on live video, but if you need step-by-step instructions on how to use Adhesive Vinyl, I have that too.
Tips for making a Glitter Ornament
–I love DIY Glitter Ornaments where the glitter is on the INSIDE – that way it’s not going to rub off. It’s fun to make you own because you can find the color of glitter you’d like and not be limited to ornament colors in the stores. Get the FINE glitter, it tends to work better.
–Pour in some floor FINISH and swirl it around. Some people also suggested using polycrylic, I haven’t tried it, but it sounds like that’s a good option as well. It will coat the inside of the ornament with a “gloss”
–Pour in your glitter. Roll a piece of paper into a “funnel” and then put it in the top of the ornament and pour the glitter through that, it’ll make it easier to get it into the ornament. Swirl the glitter around. Add more if needed. Pour out any excess.
That’s it!! Hope you enjoyed this Santa Cam Ornament Idea.
