These Feather Headbands are awesome – they have that fun whimsy feel and can be used for tons like dress-up or fun playtime, but I’m thinking they will be great to wear on Thanksgiving (I even made myself one!)
We made these at our playgroup (Ashley from Apples by Ashley got it all set up for us) and there were lots of ribbon and feather choices – I went with the neutral palette, but the bright ones were fun too. And they’re simple to make – just take a few minutes.
Here’s the girl version I made, in action. The pretty feather headband –
And the boy ones, taller and more boy-ish –
You’ll need:
Ribbon, 11 inches (for the front – I used an ivory lace ribbon on the girl one and a burlap ribbon on the boy one)
Ribbon for the ties, 2 15 inch pieces – I used a grograin gold ribbon
Feathers – there are all kinds, and you can find them at craft stores
Felt – you can just use the cheap felt sheets, etc
Hot Glue Gun
Cut your front ribbon. Arrange the feathers how you’d like them and use hot glue to attach them to the back of the ribbon:
Cut a strip of the felt and with hot glue attach it on top of all the feather ends, to make the headband more comfortable to wear, as shown below. It helps to have the felt a little shorter than the front ribbon to leave a spot to attach the ties. In the picture below, it’s that way on the left side.
You can use a lighter to melt the ends of your tie ribbons so they won’t fray. Then attach them to the end of the front ribbon, on theback, using hot glue as shown below:
Here’s a view where you can the finished headband with the tie a little better:
That’s it! Tie it on to wear it proudly, – – or tie it on to a baby that stops by (you might have seen this pic on Instagram…)
We will for sure be sporting these for Thanksgiving, and really any day just for fun. They also make great props for a fun fall picture…
Go make some!! You can do this!

How fun is that, I made one similar for my sons halloween costume and he loved it too. ~ Lisa
SO adorable! 🙂
Those are so cute Mandy! I’ll have to make these with the kids while we are waiting for Thanksgiving dinner. Oh wait, I have to cook dinner…. maybe I’ll have the hubs do it 🙂
