So, I know I’m a craft blogger and all, but sometimes I’m behind the times of social media technology. I recently figured out what the Google +1 Button was for (I used to just ignore it!) so I thought I’d share my understanding in case you don’t know either…
You will see this button down at the bottom of each of my (and most other blogger’s) posts – see it?
So basically, it’s the same as “liking” a post on facebook. You know, you see something that you like but you don’t really have a comment, so you just hit the “like” button. On Facebook, when you like things, it helps that post be more popular.
Same with G+1 – who knew! So if you like a post, just hit that g +1 button – easy as that! It shows support for the post, and helps it become more popular on google searches (which is a big deal to me!). I used to think that if I hit that button it would post to my Google + feed or something – but it doesn’t – it just gives a thumbs up for the post. After you hit that button, you will then have the option to post it on your Google+ feed, but you don’t have to – you can just click the “x” on that pop-up box.
Straight from Google: “+1 gets conversations going. Click the +1 button to give something your public stamp of approval. Then, if you want to share right away, add a comment and send it to the right circles on Google+.”
I think that most people don’t know that this is a way to support a post – because most of my posts don’t have any “+1s” — sad face – –
Here’s a sample of what you’ll see if a post has +1s – this is my most popular post (the giant picture tutorial), and 32 people hit that g+1 button:
So anyways, now you know: always hit that g +1 button to show support! I have made the effort to do that with most posts I read from other bloggers to help boost them. If you want to support bloggers, in addition to that button, you can pin posts to pinterest, share them on facebook, give them shout-outs on twitter – – anything social media is great! And of course, keep those comments coming – it makes me feel like someone is actually reading along.

I’ve been wanting something like that for a long time. Obviously, I didn’t know it was there. Thanks.

That’s so funny you posted this because I noticed this week on my list of posts a +2 next to a post and I had no idea what it was. Thanks!!

This is awesome! I didn’t know either 🙂 I shared your link on my FB page. Thank you for explaining. Oh and I clicked the g+ on this post too 😉

Ahhh, I’ve started seeing +1 pop up in blogger next to some of my posts and had no clue what that meant. Thanks.

I’m working this year to be more active on Google+, so thanks! Are you there? I’d love to add you to my circles.

THANK YOU, and a big YAY to you!- I follow your blog because I tried out one of your craft ideas a while back. I am more of a humor/family shenanigans/ blog writer. But you are in my blog feed, and I do love your blog, I just don’t always comment.
So now I am actually commenting. WHY? Because as soon as I read your title I was like “YES” there is someone else who does not understand Google+. Funny timing, as just yesterday I was trying to create my Google + profile, then stopped halfway for fear that I was a bit to hasty to jump into something I don’t understand.
So thank you soooooooooo much for posting this. And also know that you have a follower who definitely follows, I just don’t always comment 😉
And I am normally not a self promoter, but because I just think it is so funny that we felt the same about the lack of Google+ knowledge I am including the link to that post.

Oh my gosh! Forget the g+ or whatever it is, your sidebar adds are from 3 of the sites/stores I recently was on – how does Big Brother do that? Cyber elves are working over-time!

Thanks for sharing your information, as it was new to me as well and I had been wondering what it meant. Things happen so quickly with social media sites, that it’s hard to keep up with it all, plus do your art, plus all of the financial bookkeeping aspects as well.

Thanks for clarifying this. I always wondered but didn’t want to hit the button just in case. Guess I’ll have to tap that button more.
