Summer Reading Chart Bookmark – free printable!

My kiddos are obsessed with Summer Reading Programs – they jump right in!  Our program has the kiddos keep track of how many minutes they read, not necessarily how many books they read.  Which is great, but a little tricky to keep track of, so to help I’ve created a Summer Reading Chart Bookmark, and it’s a free printable for you.  And of course, to jazz it up, I foiled it!

You can make them with or without ribbon/fabric tassles.  There is a column for the time they started reading and a column for the time they stopped reading.  Then later with your help they can figure how many minutes they read. So fun, right?!

First I want to tell you a little about the foiling – cause I’m hooked!  It’s so fun!  I use my minc machine, and they’re available at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn or a variety of online retailers.   It’s super consistent and easy to use.  Last time I used it, I used the add-on accessories packs.  This time I wanted to test out my own prints.  You’ll need to use a laser jet printer – I love ours, it’s a beast and just prints and prints.  I set it up to print 4 bookmarks one page, but later I did 2 on a page for some larger ones.  You can do it however you’d like, you’ll just want to make sure the size will fit into a book.

Then ran it through the laser printer (which I unpacked and plugged in just for this project!  now, to find it a permanent home in the new house…)

Then you’ve got a couple options.  You can run them through the Minc as a full sheet and make them all one color, or you can cut them apart and then run them through with separate foil colors.  I did the second – cut them, then placed a colored foil over each one, then ran them in a batch through the Minc.

When it comes out of the Minc, you just peel off the foil sheet and it reveals how it’s adhered to anywhere that had laser ink printed on it.  It’s always so fun to peel it back!  It’s amazing to me to see how much detail it foils.

The only bummer about foiling is that it’s hard to capture in a photo – I wish I could show you the shiny awesomeness in person!
