Hi I’m Kristen the Crafty Runner. I love running 4th of July 5k’s and racing in full patriotic attire so this year I’m making myself a super easy sparkly Red White and Blue tutu to run my 5k in.
Supplies:
1 1/2″ wide elastic = your waist measurement + 1″ in length
Tulle by the yard = your waist measurement X 2.5 in width, cut 4 layers 14″ in length
Thread
Sewing Machine
- Tulle and Elastic
- Tulle cut to waist measurement X 2.5 by 14″ in length giving you 4 layers all right side up.
- Run all 4 layers through sewing machine using a wide straight stitch. Scrunch the fabric together as you push it through the machine so that when you sew it through it now equals your waist measurement X 1.5.
- Switch sewing machine to a wide zig zag stitch. Place center of elastic over edge of fabric. Stitch elastic to tutu streching elastic as you go.
- Overlap elastic edges by 1″ and stitch down.
You will look super cute at your 4th of July race or hanging out watching the fireworks.
I like to get crafty sewing workout clothes and craft up new workouts as a personal trainer. I write about this and my running adventures on The Crafty Runner.
