Hey Everyone! Heads up, I’m over at UCreate today as part of the super fun Simple Fat Quarter Series! (don’t worry, I stuck with a Red White Blue Theme since that’s the series going on here)
For the tutorial on the Simple Doll Dress, head to UCreate. If you want a quick run-down on how to do simple applique stars (to match the dress), I’ve got that tutorial right here – –
First you’ll need some Heat n Bond or Wonder Under – it’s kind of like iron-on interfacing that will stick on both sides, and you can buy it in a package near the sewing notions.
Cut it slightly smaller than your fabric scrap:
Iron it (bumpy side against the back of your fabric) onto the back of your fabric:
Then cut your shapes. I went with stars (and actually cheated and cut them with my Silhouette Cameo – but you can totally cut these by hand!). Then you can peel off that paper backing – the back of the fabric will be shiny now:
Place the shape where want it and iron it down. It will adhere.
I like to stitch around the edge – it would probably stay without it, but stitching adds a nice touch.
That’s it – wear and enjoy coordinating with your doll!
We have done appliques in the past:
Easy Flower Appliques (for a birthday party activity)
and Onesie Decorating (for a baby shower activity)
