Growing up one year we had a Candle Advent Calendar and loved it – we were reminiscing one day and my mom said I should attempt making some (the ones we had growing up were store-bought) – and she was right. With just a few supplies, you can make Candle Advent Calendars of your own – simple and fun, and they’re a big hit!
It just takes a few minutes to make one – you can totally do this!
Candle Advent Calendar
Let’s jump right in to the tutorial. You’ll need:
–a plain tall candle (and candle holder) – the candles HERE end up being about $1 each.
–a painters pen or sharpie marker or something that will write on wax. I used a painters pen in gold, HERE and it worked great
–a ruler or paper with markings
Now, you’ll need to space your marks evenly down the candle, and you need 24 marks. Mine were just a little less than 1/2 in apart, and I marked it on my ruler. Then I just slid the candle down as I marked, using those marks on the ruler as a guide.
Then you’ll label each mark with a number, 1 to 24. My handwriting isn’t great, but that’s just part of the handmade charm 😉
That’s all there is to it – I made a couple, just because:
Then each day you burn down to the correct number – so on Dec 1st, burn down to the 1, on the 2nd burn down til the 2. It’s a lot of fun and the kids will really enjoy it!
Do you have an advent calendar traditions?? I’d love to hear some other crafty versions! Here are others I have made:

I’d never seen advent candles until the year I lived in Sweden, so I associate them with that. Several years ago I saw them in a store and bought a bunch of them (I believe around 12) so I’m all set for a while, but I love the idea of making my own.
