Pristine Swing Dress

I’ve been busy sewing – you might have seen some sneak peeks on Instagram….  this dress turned out way cute!

I am part of the Blank Slate Patterns Fall Pattern Tour – – you need to check out all of the patterns and the tour over at Melly Sews.   The Blank Slate Patterns are awesome because they’re so customize-able – a literal sewing blank slate.  That being said, I loved this Pristine Swing Dress as-is, and didn’t end up changing much at all.  It was simple and perfect.
So here’s the thing…

pink wasn’t my first choice.  I like to use pink as an accent, I think as most of us do.  But you know, the girls LOVE all pink.  And so for this I picked it for them.  I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.  Plus, why is pink so hard to take pictures of?!

My favorite part about this pattern is the neckline – – I have really enjoyed sewing with knits (like tshirt fabric) lately, but I always struggle with the neckline.  This pattern is mostly knit with a neckline out of  regular cotton, so the neckline wasn’t an issue.  Perfect!

My daughter is turning 9 and I sewed her a size 8.  It’s a little big, but I didn’t take all the seam allowance that I was supposed to, so that’s probably part of the reason it’s a little big.

It’s really cozy and a perfect every-day dress.  It calls for a button in the back, but it was big enough for her in the neckline that I didn’t even need a button.  I don’t think you could omit from smaller sizes because a toddler head-to-body ratio is a lot different than an older child’s head-to-body ratio.  Love how the pocket details bring pattern down from the neckline.

The neckline looks great and detailed and yet it came together relatively easily.  The whole dress was a pretty quick sew, which is the kind of sewing projects I love.
