If you can’t tell, I might have a *slight* obsession with yarn pom poms – I want to pom pom ALL. THE. THINGS!! Today I’m to tackle this fun Pom Pom Craft Project:
Such a cute pom pom craft, right?!
For the pom poms, I used a new line of yarn from Red Heart Yarn called Chic Sheep by Marly Bird – it has a great weight and feel, and you know that I am LOVING all the color options!!
I was able to browse JoAnn online and order all the colors I needed for my project, and they are also carried on Amazon. Such a soft wool yarn!
Yarn Pom Poms
Before we dive into the craft project, I wanted to show you how I make my yarn pom poms – the key is to use a Pom Pom Maker! SO worth it! Just think of all the craft projects you can make with them!
I use a pom pom maker and it makes such perfect pom poms!!
First you open two arms of the pom pom maker and wrap yarn around them both at the same time, wrapping them together.
Wrap until it’s nice and full. Then you’ll want to end your wrapping with your yarn strand on the side of the arms away from the center of the tool.
Now close the arms you’ve been wrapping and open the other two arms. Repeat the wrapping onto them.
You’ll start on the inside and then just fill in all over.
Once the second side is wrapped, close it as well. Using small sharp scissors, cut up through the center of the yarn – there is a groove in the tool to help guide you in this step, as shown.
Once you have cut all the way around, use a small separate piece of yarn to tie around the groove. Pull it tight – you’ll feel it sink into the groove and fit snuggly.
Then open the arms on one side:
And the other side…
And then pull the two sides apart – your pom pom will pop right out of the pom pom maker!
At this point you can trim any loose strands or strings that might be out of place.
Pom Pom Craft
Now that you have your pom poms ready, let’s dive into the craft!
We simply tied twine around a stick from the yarn, then threaded the twine into the center of the pom poms . The twine is rough and so the pom pom stayed put. If you’re worried about long-term placement, you could add a dot of hot glue to the center of each pom pom where it meets the twine. My daughter had fun helping me make it.
It’s super fun hanging above a dresser, couch, or the head of a bed.
Red Heart Chic Sheep
Which colors of Red Heart Chic Sheep would YOU choose for this project?
If you are looking for more crafting ideas, you can download free Sheep Chic patterns directly from the Red Heart website, too!
I LOOOOVE this! I am saving this for when my daughter is bigger and moves into her own room!
