So, did you know that normally on Saturdays I post about food – well, maybe you didn’t know because I’ve been slacking on it lately. So here I am, ready to jump back on board. With something so simple I wondered if it’s even worth blogging about – Monkey Bread.
I’m sure everyone knows Monkey Bread, but just in case – –
grab a can of biscuits, and cut them into pieces – I just use kitchen scissors and cut them in fourths, but any way will work. Then set up a work station and grab a kid to help. You’ll need a bowl full of butter, a bowl full of cinnamon sugar (just stir a couple spoons of cinnamon into a bowl of sugar), and a baking pan – here I’m using a bread pan.
To make it, take a biscuit hunk, dip it butter, roll it in cinnamon sugar, then drop it in the pan. That’s it. Pile up the pieces in the pan then bake for about 5 minutes longer than it says on the can.
I should have taken a perfectly staged picture of Monkey Bread beauty, but I didn’t – – here’s the half eaten pan at the point were I realized, oh yeah, take a picture:
Just scoop out and enjoy. If you want to get really fancy, take some powdered sugar and stir in a little milk to make icing to dip the Monkey Bread in.
So, how about you all – – did you grow up eating Monkey Bread?? Growing up, we’d have it made in a bundt pan – that’s fun.
It was always a favorite of mine. It was also made in a bundt pan. We called it Bubble Cake.
I had never heard of it till I got married. My husband grew up eating it. His mother used a slightly different recipe, but the concept is still the same. She also made hers in a bundt pan and they called it Bubble Bread. Now I hear about it a lot and down south, where I grew up, everyone calls it monkey bread. My hubby is from up north, so I wonder if the naming has anything to do with what part of the country you are from.
I have just recently had my first try of monkeybread. I will say that it is so addicting. You can’t just have on piece or 10. Great for baking with kids too! Thanks for sharing.

I never had it as a child, but I make it for my kiddos. Of course it’s a hit! It’s so gooooood!
I am SO GLAD you posted this! I’m always looking for tried and true Monkey Bread recipes! My husband’s grandma made it for him and so I need to try new recipes to make sure I get it just right for him. I want it to be as good as he remembers it. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!
