Random fact – – I’ve been making my own laundry soap for several years. Not because I want to be environmentally friendly, just because I’m super cheap. Do I love it as much as I love Tide?nope. But it’s as good as the off-brand stuff, and that’s good enough for me.
The worst part – grating the felsnaptha – that takes muscles!!
Other than that, it’s pretty easy – just stirring some stuff together. Then pour into bottles and you’re set for a month or two:

I also don’t use dryer sheets – did you know you can make your own felt dryer balls – that’s also at that same link…….

I just made my own soap for the first time yesterday…and the whole time I was grating that bar down I thought…this better be worth it! 😉
I just recently started making my own laundry soap! Other than grating the soap it was easy and so far I like it! I make the dry soap and not the liquid soap though. 🙂
I use the grating blade on my food processor for the bar soap. So far it has worked with Fels Naptha, Ivory, and Zote. Makes the process much quicker!
I have been making my own laundry soap for awhile because my little boy had eczema and it was the only thing that helped. (and I am cheap too)
I actually take my soap to my moms because she has this cheese grater attachment to an old bread mixer and it chews right through the soap. I will do a lot all at once, then just store it along with my other soap ‘ingredients’.

I also use my cheese grater attachment for the Kitchen Aid stand mixer. It’s like grating a really hard cheese like parmesan.
OK, so just before I got your post for this I had printed out directions for homemade laundry detergent from another site….coincidentally. It’s the same recipe EXCEPT the other recipe says that after you let it set overnight and you pour it off into other containers, to only fill the other containers 1/2 full of the new detergent goop and the other 1/2 with hot water. Have you tried it that way? Maybe you have and the clothes didn’t seem to come very clean, so you use it straight up without diluting it more? ???
