Are you looking for something to make your gifts stand out this holiday season? Just a little extra umph – well, I’ve got a great idea for you – Gum Starburst Gift Toppers! And they even smell like mint – a bonus 🙂
I’m thinking tweens and teens especially will go crazy for these. I know if my kids saw a package with a gum sunburst on it, they’d want to open that one first for sure! They just love gum. We always have gum each year as stocking stuffers as well – it’s a hit!
First I picked up some Extra in a variety of flavors at Walmart while I was checking out during routine shopping (which I took my niece too – she’s 1 years old – I was out of shopping-with-baby practice!) – each pack is under $1 – –
I went with mint gum flavors of Peppermint, Spearmint, and Polar Ice:
This project will just take you a few minutes – – here we go – – I used a 1 1/2 inch punch to punch a circle out of thin cardboard (I recycled packaging, but a cereal box would work too) – you can cut it by hand if you don’t have a punch. Then you’ll need a package of gum:
Using a hot glue gun, put glue on the end of one stick of gum and place it onto the circle base. Layer and work your way around as shown below (just ignore the looks of my well-used glue gun!)
Just work your way around – the middle will get kind of tall – when I could I tried inserting sticks under the middle, if that makes sense:
When you get them all attached, it will look like this:
Then I just punched another circle (you could hand-cut it) and I cut a red vinyl sticker to put on the top of it to make it prettier. I went all out and jazzed it up with a scrap of red pom pom trim, but obviously that’s optional.
Now I can use the center of the Gift Topper to double as a gift tag – just write the gift recipent’s name in there and it’ll be good to go!

I’m sure most pet owners already have heard this ad naseum, but it’s worth mentioning again that xylitol (found in most gum) is poisonous to pets. So after you’ve spiffied-up your package with this gum starburst don’t put it under the tree–keep it out of furry ones’ reach.
My granddaughter would love that topper even more than any gift. Thanks for the great idea.
Such a creative idea! Love it! #client
