Hi Sugar Bee Crafts readers! I’m Sarah, the creative mind behind Alderberry Hill.
I am super thrilled to be here today. A {BIG} thanks to Mandy for having me!
Today I have an easy tutorial for making your own Christmas Subway Art.
I have provided the cutting file for all you loyal readers too!
Materials needed:
9 1/2” x 5 1/2” piece of wood.
Paint.
Paint Brush.
Vinyl for cutting, I used black.
Click here for the cutting file.
Here is my piece of wood all painted.
Here is what my Silhouette screen looked like when I have the file open.
Simply load your cutting mat with a 9 1/2” x 5 1/2” piece of vinyl, set your blade to the proper setting (Vinyl is 2 for the Silhouette) and cut.
The next part is a little time consuming but not too bad.
I removed my vinyl letters one by one and placed on my painted wood.
Be mindful of spacing. I judged by placing my vinyl below the word I was working on.
Mine did not come out perfect, I eyeballed it for the most part but you could draw lines with a pencil & ruler for more accuracy.
You can distress your wood for added texture but I really liked mine clean & plain.
Here are a few pics.
If you prefer the stencil look, give your piece a coat of contrasting paint now that you have the vinyl letters on and then remove the letters before the paint is dry. As well your left over vinyl also doubles as a stencil, place on top of your surface and stencil your paint on!
Thanks again Mandy for having me, I am so happy visit with you and your readers!
Be sure to pop on over to Alderberry Hill, (or visit my Facebook page) I have a ton of Christmas crafts going on right now.

Love it!! And placing the vinyl that way does sound like a tedious process but so worth it in the end

Sarah, I am a huge fan of subway art!!! I don’t have a Silhouette cutter, but I’m going to look into one! It would be so much easier than painting all my projects!!!
Mandy, nice to stop by…
