Love knocking those to-do projects off this list! Sometimes it’s the simple ones that never get done for some reason. Anyways, love how simple this was and now I have a reusable banner that I can just bust out a moment’s notice. The Chalkboard Pennant Banner of Awesomeness:
I picked up these wooden pennant things at the Queen Bee Market at SNAP this past year (I can’t remember which vendor – if you know, fill us in!) and there were blank, ready for creating. I wanted to paint them with chalkboard paint because then the possibilities for signs were open-ended. read more….
This was actually just a touch more complicated than I thought. I grabbed some chalkboard paint I had sitting around and painted a couple of layers on. Then I read that you had to bake the paint to set it, which I haven’t had to do with any other chalkboard paint I’ve used. Turns out it was specially made for glass – who knew! So then I debated – should I bake it or not? It wasn’t painted on glass, but the directions said to do it. So I baked it – which make my kitchen smell like cooking wood for a while. But it worked. It might have worked without baking, but you never know. I forgot to take pictures of all of this baking nonsense.
Then you just “season” your chalkboard by rubbing chalk all over it and you’re good to go. There are enough spots that I can spell “Congratulations” (like for the baby shower I hosted) or “Happy Birthday” or “Love Ya” or “Oh Happy Day” or just about whatever I want it to say. Pretty fun!
Catch that chalkboard craze and go make one for yourself!
