Bubble Shorts, Patriotic Style!

You’ve seen the Bubble Shorts floating around blogland, right?! Every time I saw a pair, they got cuter and cute – I knew I needed to give the pattern a try. And sticking with our current series, I went Red White Blue. This is what I’ve been doing while the series rolls on the blog – sewing sewing sewing. And peeling wallpaper (you can read a little about that adventure from Trevor’s view) – but sewing is much more fun to show off:

The girls were goofy, so just ignore that – I just took a few pictures and then a big ole storm rolled in, complete with dark sky, so the picture-taking was cut short and you just get what you get.

I was sent the pattern from E&E Patterns, Bubble Pocket Shorts, of the blog Elegance & Elephants.

It sewed up really cute I made the 7/8 in Classic for both of my girls (one is 8 and one is 6). My girls have had an issue with shorts being too short (they like them a little longer), so I added a couple of inches length to them. I can’t wait to make a pair for my baby niece without the extra length – they’re so cute in little sizes! The extra length gives them a little different look, but still cute:

I made the pockets of of red with some of the chevron zig-zag on top of it orientated the opposite way of the rest of the shorts, to make them stand out a little more.

You can’t tell in the pictures, but the fabric has silver glitter all over it – it’s awesome, and I found it at JoAnn’s. The shirts have silver dots all over with neckline and about halfway down, which I thought was a perfect match for the shorts – I found the tanks at good ole Walmart. Along with the Star banner, which was only $1. Score.

Will your kiddos be wearing Red White and Blue this summer?? The last time I made my kiddos something was back in 2010, and they were still pouring themselves into those skirts with shorts just yesterday, so it was for sure time for something new.
