Hey! I’m Britney from The Princess & Her Cowboys and I’m so excited to share this fun and easy pillow with you!
For me, the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays because it means that it’s summertime, barbecue season and fireworks. Whoever invented fireworks is one of my favorite people because there’s nothing quite like all of the different combinations of colors lighting up the night sky.
The problem with the holiday is that it’s so close to the beginning of the month that I forget to put out the decorations and then it’s over. So that’s why I decided to make something that would only take a few minutes but would make it feel a little more patriotic in our home. So this 15-minute USA Pillow is perfect for that!
You might be thinking that there is no way you can do this in 15 minutes but it’s really just a matter of cutting things out and straight stitching them together. I think it took longer for me to get out my cutting mat and other materials than it did for most of the project.
Usually I say that you should cut out everything at the beginning, that way you save some time. This time I cut out the center piece first and then used stencils and some craft paint to create the letters and stars. While it was drying, I cut out the other pieces.
Taking your pillow form, measure the length and width. Take that measurement and add 1″ to allow for seam allowance in the back. For the front, I cut 4 pieces 3 inches wide and then as long as the shorter side of the pillow. You will just need to make adjustments depending on how big your pillow is and how big you want the center to be.
Sew on the longer sides first and then finish it with the two sides. Press the seams open.
Place right sides of the front and back pieces together and stitch. I like to leave a generous hole in the bottom and NOT on a corner to make things easier when stitching it all up. Snipping the corners also helps the bulk of the corners when turned right side out.
Stuff it with your pillow form and carefully stitch up the hole with your sewing machine. And you’re done with plenty of time to do another craft!
What would you stencil on your pillow?
