If you haven’t seen my post about the Home Tweet Home Holiday Christmas Tree, what are you waiting for?! I really LOVE how it turned out and hope it inspired you a little as you start to think of decorating your own tree.

Today I just wanted to throw out a few Tree Decorating Tips to help you get started:
1. Theme – this is the hardest part to decide, but once you narrow down a general theme in your mind, it’s easier to gather supplies and create a tree within those parameters.
2. Color – along with theme, decide this up front. Stick with about 3 colors (unless you go “multi colored” which is also super fun). I used deep turquoise, browns, and gold. Have a color scheme helped pull everything together and made for a cohesive tree.
3. Think Beyond Ornaments – what can you put on your tree that’s not traditional ornaments? I went with birdhouses, and they were only $1 each! I also hung balls that are used for filler in floral arrangements. I loved the texture they brought in. There are tons of fun ideas to use things other than traditional ornaments.
4. Scrapbooking Details – have you been down the scrapbooking aisle?! It is FILLED with cuteness – you can incorporate those things into your tree. I used glitter bows, but there is so much more.
5. Garland and Ribbon – garland and ribbon really fill lots of space for not a lot of effort. I think they make any tree look super polished and take things up a notch. Look for garland or ribbon that match your theme and colors. I used both garland and ribbon.
6. Think Beyond a Tree Skirt – – tree skirts can be way cute, but it’s worth giving thought to a non-skirt. For my tree, I used a crate and love the look it created with the tree.
7. Topper – the tree for sure needs something on the top. What you put up there is up to you – star, angel, giant bow – something that commands the top of the tree.
8. Have fun! I know, a little cheesy, but really, have fun! Enjoy the process, from planning to completion. It’ll all come together and you’ll love what you created!
