It’s always a great time to give and help those in need, but there’s something extra special about helping around the holidays. Right now the Check-Out Hunger program is celebrating 25 years!! At the grocery store, you can scan in $1, $5, $10 or $20 Check-Out Hunger donation coupons for Harvesters and adding them to their grocery bills – it doesn’t get much easier than that! For every dollar donated, Harvesters’ network can provide three meals to hungry families, children and seniors in our community.
And did you know that you can also participate in a Virtual Food Drive?! SO awesome! Right here from your computer, you can help provide meals to those in need.
You simply choose what foods you’ll donate, and pay right there online for them and the meals they provide.
What Does Hunger Mean To You?
I think this is a great topic to discuss as a family – what is hunger, and how can we help. A fun way to spark discussion might be over a homemade snack (and I’ve got a fun one for you below!) – talk to the kiddos about how they are able to have snacks after school, but that there are other kids and families that don’t have that in their home. And how we can help them.
Caramel Apple Boats
Today I have Caramel Apple Boats – Kid Snack Idea is a fun treat to eat and to make. It’s simple enough that kids can help assemble the treat.
You’ll need:
–apples
–caramel dip
–extra goodies (chocolate chips, sprinkles, chocolate candies)
–small craft sticks
First slice your apple. Then press the craft stick into it as show to make a boat.
Drizzle caramel dip on top of the apple boat. Top with candies and sprinkles.
My kids LOVED having these as a special afternoon treat. Be sure to eat them right away so the caramel dip doesn’t slide off the apples. Enjoy!!
