Polar Express Hot Cocoa – Semi Homemade Mom

Hello Sugar Bee Crafts readers! My name is Kelly, also known as the Semi Homemade Mom. I’m an elementary teacher and I live in Pennsylvania with my husband Paul and two little boys, Silas (3) and Wesley (15 months). I can’t tell you how excited I am to be guest posting here, and boy do I have a treat today. If you’re not familiar with the Christmas book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg, you really should check it out. It’s a magical story and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful. As the main character boards this special train headed for the North Pole, he writes…



So guess what this hot cocoa is made from? You guessed it, melted chocolate bars! 3 Musketeers chocolate bars, to be exact. Yes it’s rich, yes it’s sweet, but you know what? It’s Christmas, give the kids (and yourself) a real treat. 🙂


Polar Express Hot Cocoa
serves 4
from Food.com

3 regular size Three Musketeers bars
3 cups milk, warmed slightly
1 cup miniature marshmallows
whipped cream, optional
dark chocolate syrup, optional


Unwrap candy bars and roughly chop. Place chopped bars in a large pot and heat over medium heat. Stirring constantly, continue heating until candy is completely melted. The chocolate outer coating and the inner nougat should be completely combined and melted together. Slowly whisk in one cup of the warmed milk until smooth. Stir in marshmallows and continue heating until marshmallows are completely melted. Whisk in remaining 2 cups milk. Serve immediately with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, if desired.
