Peasant Top… for me!

I sewed myself a Peasant Top – and I love love love it!

 Here’s how it all went down….
you might have seen around blogland that it’s Kid’s Clothing Week, or #kcw.  It’s where you dedicate an hour a day for a week to sew something for your kiddos.  I normally blog ahead of schedule, but I left today open so I could blog “in real time” what I made for KCW.  BUT – we swung by Joann’s before playgroup, and this fabric was calling to me.  To me, for ME.  I’ve wanted a chevron top for a long time, but even on deal sites they’re still $30.  I grabbed a couple of yards and spent $7 total (with a coupon) and still have some left over.  So let’s call this a $5 shirt. Anyways, long story short (or longer?!), I ditched the idea of sewing something for my kids because I wanted to sew something for myself instead 🙂

I toyed with the idea of trying to just wing it on a  peasant top, but then I realized that was crazy talk.  I browsed Etsy and found just the pattern that I pictured in my mind – the Devon Peasant Top from Sis Boom., and they sent it to me.  And I love it!

It’s probably the most well-done, detailed pdf pattern I’ve used.  I think you could learn to sew just with this pattern – they explain all the terminology of techniques used, etc.  Each size prints off as it’s own (so the sizes aren’t all layered on top of each other) and the piecing the patterns together is really well illustrated.  With all the detail, it does make for a lot of pages – so I just printed the pattern and read the directions via my computer.

The fit is really flattering.  With a peasant top I was a little worried that it would be too poofy or loose, but it fits great (I sewed an XS).  There are lots of options on sleeve and trim and I really want to do that pom pom version – isn’t that so cute?!

The neckline had a couple of options as well – I went with the lower version and I did a faux tie – it’s an elastic neckline made to look like a drawstring.  So easy to wear that way!

At first I thought I’d add elastic to the sleeve hem instead of having them bell like the pattern, but then I tried it on, and I actually liked the bell look.  I posted it for opinions on FB and instagram, and everyone voted to keep the sleeves as-is, which I did.

I love how it’s unique and fun and easy to wear.  It sewed up really quickly and easily and I can’t say enough about the pattern – it’s a great one that I will for sure use again!  There’s even a dress version of the top – maybe I’ll make that as my pom pom version and pair it with some leggings….
