So you love mint too?? that’s why you’re here – you heard “mint chocolate chip” and came running right over to find out more? 😉 So here’s the deal – I didn’t used to like hot chocolate – but it’s because I was doing it all WRONG. I grew up with those powder packets that you add water to as a means to hot chocolate, and I wasn’t a fan. No surprise. Well then Trevor started taking over hot chocolate, and wowza, game changer!! First off, key ingredient: milk!! And then make it real – add in real things, like chocolate chips and candies. It was a whole new world and I can say that I was all in! And so you can know that this Mint Chocolate Chip Hot Chocolate recipe is EVERYTHING you’re looking for in hot chocolate – yum.
This recipe is put together with Mint Chocolate Chip stir sticks, which makes things EXTRA fun – you can make them ahead of time, and be ready to whip up tasty hot chocolate on a whim. My kiddos are big fans of the fun factor! Heating it up makes for simple and delicious hot chocolate, it’s perfect.
So are you ready to learn about this masterpiece?! let’s dive right in!
Mint Chocolate Chip Hot Chocolate Stir Sticks
First up, let’s make the stir sticks – I love that they look super fancy, but they’re easy to put together. You’re going to need:
–sticks (I use those wooden skewer things and then cut off the sharp end)
–mini marshmallows
–candy melts (green or white)
–mint extract
–mini chocolate chips, mint chocolate candies, green sprinkles
To begin, slide about 5 of the marshmallows onto a stick – this will give you more surface area to hold all the candies (if it were just the stick, you wouldn’t get that much).
Heat your candy melts according to package directions (I microwave them at 30 second intervals, stirring between each one)
Meanwhile, chop up your mint chocolate candies.
When the candy melts are all melted, add a few drops of mint extract and some green food coloring if desired.
Now the fun starts!! Dip the marshmallows into the minty candy melts until covered:
Tap off extra:
Then simply sprinkle them in mint chocolate candy bits, sprinkles, and mini chocolate chips. Get them nice and covered!! I then used some melted chocolate chips to cover the stick a little, but that’s optional.
How to use Hot Chocolate Stir Sticks
To use the stirrers, you’ll need some hot chocolate milk. We warmed up chocolate milk – that delicious chocolately taste pairs so perfectly with any warm drink – including minty hot chocolate!
Once you have your chocolate milk warm and ready, just go ahead and plunge in your stir stick. Stir it until the minty chocolatey goodness melts into your hot drink.
Then drink and enjoy!!
