It’s that time of year – the ever-fun Sundress Series – it’s always so fun to be a part of it! This year was a little different because I used her new Sundressing book to sew up this Littlefield Sundress – and seriously, it came out so cute! (and guess what, I get to GIVE AWAY a copy of the book to ONE OF YOU! that’s on down…)
The dress I chose to make out of the book was the Littlefield Sundress – well actually, I handed over the decision-making to my daughter – she picked her favorite.
Cotton Twill fabric was suggested, so I expanded my horizons and sewed with that for the first time. I love this cute star pattern print I found – perfect for summer!
And then I thought it would be fun to do the neck binding and side button placket things in a contrasting fabric, and I love them.
The pleats are the star of the show on this dress – – if you follow me on Snapchat (@SugarBeeCrafts) you’ll know that I mis-measured and messed up the pleats on one side (grrrr!), but even with that, I still love love love them.
The dress turned out cute and I took about a bazillion pictures – how could I not?!
I even went all out and put in a blind hem – it looks so good, and I forgot to snap a pic of that detail, so you’ll just have to believe me 😉 If you’ve never done a blind hem, I did a post a few years about it (with video and all!!) How to Blind Hem Pants (same technique for a skirt/dress).
I wanted this dress to last this year AND next, so I added some length to the hem as well, instead of hitting her at the knee, it hits a couple inches below the knee.
The book is fun because it contains options for SO MANY dresses, both girls and women’s. It provides the main bodice and then walks you through steps of creating your pattern pieces based off of that.
