Filling Easter Eggs can become a challenge – I wanted something simple but not candy. And I was teaching preschool and wanted to make some homemade playdoh for the bunch. And the ideas kind of morphed together yesterday morning…
I made playdoh — there are tons of recipes already out there, so I’ll let you find one. I try a different one each time. But instead of making several batches, each of a different color, I made one big batch. Then I divided it into 4 parts (for 4 colors) and mixed each color into the dough using my food processor:
It was way easier than trying to knead in the color by hand. It came out a little speckled in color, but I kind of liked that. I made colors to match plastic Easter eggs that I had on hand (true cheapy confession – – I keep and reuse the plastic eggs!)
Stuff the dough into the color-coordinating egg:
So I thought perfect containers were the plastic eggs – just like those little playdoh containers, only cuter. Well beware of what egg you’re using, because a bunch of the ones I had were like this:
Yep, those are airholes in the bottom. Which means that the containers AREN’T airtight. So even though my containers are cute, they don’t actually function well and I still need to keep then in a plastic bag:
It was a hit though – – everyone loves playdoh:
Yes, all the eggs in photo shoot are actually filled with playdoh – I each preschool kiddo a set of colors. Here’s a “behind the scenes” look at picture-taking; what is with cats and kids always having to be in on the fun?? 🙂
So – – if you are looking for last-minute items to add to Easter baskets, here ya go – whip up some playdoh and stuff some eggs:
Do you have a favorite homemade playdoh recipe? If so, leave a link in the comments so we can all try it out!

How was the food processor clean-up? This is a really cute idea…I need more non-candy things to add to eggs (diabetic son) so I might make up some playdough this weekend! Thanks for the idea!

It cleaned up super easy – – like it just swished into a doughball and I pulled it out as that. Good luck!

I like the speckled look the dough has! And this is a fun twist for filling eggs… Easter candy is my favorite though… 😉
