Today’s craft idea will make you question what you’ve always known, “Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees”… cause maybe it does here in the craft world of gift-giving… enter the Money Topiary:
This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own – and my opinion is that this craft is awesome! You know, you want to give something “crafty” but not everyone appreciates crafts, not to mention those that are just hard to give gifts to – this is the solution! Crafty (cause you love that) but when it boils down to it, it’s just a pile of money (others love that!). Win win. It’s fairly easy to make and I’m here with a tutorial to walk you through the steps.
First up, gather your supplies – you’ll need:
–a medium stryofoam ball (mine’s from Make It: Fun) and a smaller styrofoam ball (not pictured below)
–wire of some sort – I used wire ornament hangers because they were the right size and GREEN – talk about perfect!
–money – I used $35 in one dollar bills
–clay pot, painted with chalkboard paint, ribbon and burlap for decor, and dowel rod or stick (also not pictured below)
I’m sure there are lots of ways to to this, but I wanted a messy looking topiary, so here’s my version. First fold the bill in half. Also fold the wire in half.
Then mush the middle together like you’re creating a bow and wrap the wire around the center. Twist it to keep it in place:
Poke that twisted end into the ball.
Repeat 34 more times, spacing out the bills to fill the ball.
I could have poked in more if I wanted to give more mulah, but I think it filled out nicely with what I used:
Now, to make it a topiary, first put the smaller styrofoam ball into the pot as the base. Push the end of your dowel rod or stick into the ball in the pot and the other end into the topiary ball (don’t push it all the way through – I learned that!)
Then just cover the pot inners with burlap or whatever and put a bow on the stick and it’s cute and ready to be given and enjoyed!
I can’t get over how awesome this turned out! I love it! It’s part of my creations as my position on the Make It: Fun Team and I loved having the challenge to come up with an amazing gift idea.

This is an awesome idea, Mandy! I’d love to receive one (or more!) of these as a gift. And it sure makes it a lot more fun to give money as a gift, too. Thank you!

I’ve been looking for ways to give money and I got tired of giving gift cards. I’ve been looking at a lot of different money tree ideas but I hadn’t thought of a money topiary – super cute, and I bet you could even do a version with 3 tiers or something. I know Christmas is a long way off, but I made a Christmas tree money tree you might like, I used foam and pins, was about $40 (including the money).
