I have a thing for baskets – can’t get enough!! If you’ve ever wanted to add a crafty touch to a wire basket, I have a fun project idea for you today. I’m going to show you how I made this DIY Fabric Woven Wire Basket – I just love how it turned out!
It a fun way to bring in fabric and soften up a room – and wouldn’t it be fun to switch out the fabric strips with the seasons?

DIY Fabric Woven Wire Basket VIDEO TUTORIAL
I have a quick video for you so you can see the process in action – and then you can scroll down and see the step-by-step instructions and photos to walk you through the project.
How to make Fabric Strips
First open up your fat quarters of fabric and iron out all the creases – it’s an extra step, but you’ll be glad you did. Then cut slits about 1 inch apart on one side of the fabric. Use those slits as starts, rip the fabric into strips.
Make strips out of several different fabric choices. The amount you’ll need depends on the size of your basket.
Weaving
Take one strip and start weaving it horizontally into the basket. Go over and then go under each wire prong. Over under, over under. When you move on to the next row above or below, be sure to make it opposite the row next to it. For example, if the above row goes “over, under”, then the next row will go “under, over”.
To attach strips (it took 2 strips to make it around the circumference of my basket), simply overlap them and secure with hot glue.
Cut off any excess fabric strip when you’ve made your way all the way around.
Finished!
That’s it! step back and enjoy your crafted basket!
What will you fill yours with?? Mine is the perfect size to hold all those craft books of mine 😉
