this is a post as part of the Michaels Makers team - all opinions are my own
It’s that time of year – organize all the things!! It’s a little premature, but I’m going to show you some of my craft room – not quite a reveal, because I don’t feel like I have all the cutesy things in place, but I do have the organization in place, and that’s where you want to build from for sure (reveal to come in the near future) – so, without further ado… Craft Room Organization!
I am LOVING having a craft room on the main level of our new home – I think Trevor might have added it in to sell me on the house plan, and it sure helped 😉 It is a big room, but of course I already think “we should have made that craft room bigger!”
Here you can see a backed-out view (with a camera lens that make the room look gigantic) – – –
And looking the other direction – it has several windows and an exterior door (in case in the future I want to do kid craft classes, they’ll have their own entrance instead of traipsing through the house) and I love the natural light.
I have a bunch of organization ideas, so let’s break those down…Inspired to organize your own space? Start the year off right! Michaels has tons of products and storage supplies that can be used to decorate and inspire creativity in any room of your house or office. I used lots from Michaels in my craft room. They just launched a new line of storage and organization product called Cre8ted Spaces available in stores now and it has tons of different colors, bins and office supplies – with more than 300 new items in 4 coordinating colors. If you don’t know where to begin, you can always take a look at some of the fun storage projects on Michaels.com or the other 49 makers’ ideas on The Glue String for tips on designing, organizing and decorating their favorite places!
First up, the storage cubes in the nook by the door – they’re my favorite part of the room! The cubes are from Michaels, as are the bins in every-other slot – I love that design element. At first I had all my yarn in the bins, but it was hard to see what colors I had, etc. Once I moved them to the open squares, it was perfect, and I don’t know why I didn’t think of that from the beginning.
I need as much storage as possible – this room has to be functional. So I utilized the wasted space up high by adding all the high shelving. I also keep a stool in my craft room, that way I can easily access the things on high shelves.
Another favorite area is my sewing desk, also made from storage cubes from Michaels. They hold up the two ends of the sewing table and I love how they help to organize all the cute paper that otherwise would be piled into a big mess.
Backed out a little, you can see that I stocked up on embroidery hoops, and then used bright and fun fabrics to fill the wall – I really love it!! It was so nice to actually get something up on the blank walls 😉
The marque letters are from Michaels as well, and they’re another of my favorite things in the room
Next to my sewing machine I have a catch-all wooden basket/box – it’s a new line at Michaels and I really loved the feel of it. My hope is that I can put all my unfinished projects or things I’m working on right in it, instead of strewn out all over my sewing table 😉
I’ve talked about the homemade thread rack before – I still really love it, it’s perfect (although I should have made it just a big bigger…). I added spice rack shelving to hold all my spraypaint and I’m really loving it – it makes me want to stock up on more colorful spraypaint so I can fill my shelves with color.
Craft supplies can be so pretty – I got from felt balls from VintageKitchn and put them in mason jars to show off their awesomeness. Also, I found an aqua sewing machine at the thrift store, which I loved, but I didn’t want it to take up room, so I put it on a shelf way up high and love it as decor.
I might have a thing for paint markers 😉
Another area I really need to be functional is right by my working station. It still needs sorted through, but it’s coming along and is really functional. The color here is brought in by those cute colorful candy containers from Michaels new line. So cute!
Hope you’re enjoying all your organization as you kick off the new year!! Be sure to check out everyone’s awesome organization ideas!

I love what you’ve done! What about the cabinets? Base and wall, these would work for me, I think!

They’re from IKEA, and I love them because they’re not super deep, so they don’t take up a ton of room but still provide a lot of storage

Great storage ideas! I need to reorganize my craft room and add storage space because my supplies have doubled since the last year. I love the colors that you’ve used and the original storage solutions. I want to have a fresh and cozy feeling when working … so adding some cool and colorful storage containers, shelves or baskets will make the atmosphere really creative! Thanks for sharing! Lovely post!

It looks so great Mandy!! I love all the color and it’s so cute! All the organization is great too – I’m working on mine right now too and it’s so nice when there are actually places to put everything away!! 🙂

What did you use for your sewing table top? Both table tops actually. Also, you got the narrow cabinets from IKEA but which ones and how did you get the narrow countertop?
That’s exactly what I want on my wall and was planning on using IKEA’s upper kitchen cabinets on the bottom but havn’t figured out the countertop.
Thanks!

we were having countertops installed in our kitchen so I had them do that narrow one as well – it’s quartz
