Longest title ever for a craft? I just couldn’t decide what to call it, so it;s a little long-winded…. But, here’s a tutorial on how to make Chalkboard Mason Jar Magnetic Jars:
I was sent some products to try out from Plaid, along with a gift card to Walmart for any other supplies I may need. First off, did you know that Walmart has expanded their craft department?? It’s awesome – my store even jumped over across the main aisle for more room…
(oh man, I must be technology challenged – I took these with my tablet and now I can’t flip the pictures – so turn your head and humor me …. )
Do you remember a couple of years ago when they downsized the craft section and took out fabric (at least my Walmart did ) to make room for a bigger electronics section – – and then mine brought back fabric a few months ago and I jumped for joy – – and now the whole craft department has expanded recently – take that electronics! Crafts rule! See, they have tons of stuff:
Including tons of products from Plaid – awesomeness!
Anyways, moving on – – I picked up these super awesome mason jars – I didn’t even know they made these:
But there they were at Walmart, with all the other mason jars:
I love how cute and squatty they are – –
I had in mind to create some organizational jars for my craft room – – with the prospects of a new craft table, I want to get that room more organized. First I painted the lids with Chalkboard Paint – it took 3 coats – here’s coat 1:
Meanwhile, I grabbed the craft paint and painted the inside of the mason jars. Kind of going for a milk-glass effect:
I used a brush and painted the entire inside. I did 2 coats:
Then so the paint inside won’t scrape off, I painted a layer of mod podge over the white paint, again on the inside of the jar:
Next up, make them useable for my magnet board:
I hot glued magnets onto the bottom of the jars. I started with 3 but they’re pretty heavy so I ended up using 5 on each jar:
Now that the paint had dried on the lids, I primed them by rubbing them with chalk and then wiping the dust off (the one in the corner has been wiped off:
Then I used my chalk marker (love those things) to write on the lids:
So now I know what’s in them:
Here’s an ariel view of the jars – – so cute!!
Now, the plan was to put these on a magnet bar that I bought this weekend – – but of course, I can’t find it anywhere!! Did I leave it in the cart when I loaded my van?? maybe…. bummer! So for now, I showed you how they can work by using my magnetic makeup board – – so this is a board hanging on the wall and the jars hold themself onto it – perfect:
This is going to be awesome when I get the final touches of my craft room in place – I can’t wait!!
Disclosure – – I was sent Plaid products and compensated for this post – – but all opinions are my own and I really do love Plaid and Walmart! I wrote this post as part of a paid campaign with Plaid Crafts and Blueprint Social. The opinions in this post are my own.
here’s what others have been making…

I absolutely love this idea – but I think I’d skip the painting inside step so i could see what’s inside. Now I’ve got to track down a metal board so I have something to put these on. Thanks for the Great idea!

Those little mason jars are sweet. It gives me a great idea on how to package my homemade shaving cream and lotion whenever I get around to making them ๐

The craft section is one of the very few reasons I go into walmart any more. I actually think I have a few of those little jars somewhere, probably with something canned in them already. ๐

I love it! I would probably skip the painting, too, just because I’m lazy. But I guess it doesn’t matter to see into it, since you have the contents written across the lid. What about : Chalkboard Magnetic Mason Storage Jars? Then you don’t have to say ‘jar’ twice ๐ lol

Love the squatty jar! I found one at my moms and immediately stole it and put some coconut oil in it and put it in baby’s changing table. ๐ I’d not seen them before that, though… so I’m going to have to check Walmart. L.O.V.E. them. ๐
