3D Doodler (with GIVEAWAY!)

Did I catch your attention with “Giveaway”?!? It’s been a little while since I’ve done a blog giveaway, and this is a great one for it (giveaway on down in the post….). Have you heard of the 3D Doodler? It’s awesome and I was super excited to get my hands on one (well, two, one for a lucky one you and one for me).    The 3Doodler 2.0 is THE must-have 3D printing pen that is a super fun tool for crafters.  It is much more affordable than a 3Dprinter and draws dimensional figures and structures.  (You can purchase the pen directly from Michaels.com)  Basically you feed in the plastic sticks, the doodler melts them, and extrudes them, and you can design whatever your heart imagines.  The plastic hardens as it’s extruded, so you can essentially “draw” in mid-air!

I wanted to start off with a simple project, so we used a template that was included to make some glasses.

For that, you draw 3 flat items (the front, and the two ear pieces), then you connect them together at the connecting points and the object becomes 3D.  Fun, right?!

Next up I wanted to try “freehanding” in mid-air, so not a flat constructed item.  I thought a fun pot wrap would be good to tackle.  I wanted something with a little interest for my plain mini pot would be fun, and it couldn’t be flat constructed because it angles out.  I couldn’t take pics during the process because the plastic dries quickly, so you’re constantly building, but I started with a square base and worked up.  Yes, you can draw straight up!

I love the pop of neon and think it came out really cute!

I didn’t have much time to play around with the 3D doodler (just the day before we left for vacation), so these are beginner projects.  They’re easy and fun!  And I can’t wait to dive in a little more and see what else I can create.  I’m sure I’ll be making more things in the future, so stay tuned for those.  And my kiddos are excited about it too – especially my 12 year old, he thinks it’s super cool.
