Today is all about apples – – I wasn’t sure wanted I wanted to post about, so I was wandering around the craft store for ideas. On the end cap there was a caramel apple display calling to me – yum!! I’m sure there are tons of recipes and tutorials out there, but I still wanted to post about it – I’ve never made a caramel apple before now, so I wanted to share my quick tips and tricks for a Simple Caramel Apple.
I know a bunch of you probably think “caramel apples, I make those all the time” – but if that’s not you (like me!), here ya go. We LOVE caramel apples – yum! – so it’s fun to try our hand a home version.
You’ll need – (like I mentioned above, this was genius marketing and was all located on an endcap, just taunting me so I had to buy it!)
–caramel (the one I found made for this worked awesome – I didn’t have to open a bunch of wrapped pieces or anything)
–candy melts
–trays and sticks
–sprinkles
First up, wash your apples. I grabbed mine out of the fridge so they were cold, but I don’t know if that was the best thing – the caramel gets harder quicker so I think next time I’d keep them room temperature. Take off the stem and push in a caramel apple stick. I used these fun reusable plastic ones that look like sticks instead of sucker handles – pretty fun:
Heat up the caramel according to the directions on the package. I melted mine in the microwave. Easy peasy.
Then simply roll the apple around until it’s nice and coated:
Put the apple on the paper tray thing to let the caramel stiffen. Meanwhile, melt your candy melts. I then put mine in a piping bag to make it easier to drizzle, but you could just drizzle the melted candy on with a spoon.
After the white chocolate candy melts, you can sprinkle on some chocolate sprinkles. And that’s it!
See, totally doable! Just remember to work fast and you’ll be good to go. And no need to aim for perfection – it’s going to be delicious, so it’s not all about looks, obviously 🙂
If you’re nervous about dipping/rolling the whole apple, you can give my Loaded Apple Nachos a try – they’re yummy too!
