If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I am cranking out marker mugs like crazy – they’re so fun and easy, I just can’t get enough! So of course I needed to make a couple of Shamrock Marker Mugs. And I love them – so cute!
I’ve got a how-to tutorial for you, but here’s the process in a glimpse:
So first up, prep your mugs. Wipe them down with rubbing alcohol. Then stick on a template – I used my Silhouette to cut out a shamrock. Then just start having fun! With the dots I layered them starting on the edges and working out:
I’ve used Oil-Based Sharpie in the past but wanted to give Painters a try, so that’s what I used this time around:
When you’re done, let the design sit a couple of days to cure. After that, it’s time to bake them. Start with a cold oven – just stick the mugs in on a cookie sheet. Then heat the oven up to 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Then turn the oven off and let the mugs cool in the oven.
That’s it! You can handwash them from there. I’m a rebel, and I wanted to try them in the dishwasher….
and look – it totally stayed on! I’ve washed it twice since, and it’s held up:
I made the strip one in similar fashion as the dot one, just drew lines across my template instead of dots. And it was a reverse template as the dot one. I outlined the shamrock to make it stand out a little more.
I know these are filled with yummy candy (fun gift idea!) but I kind of want to fill them with a frothy shamrock shake…. mmmmmm….
That’s all there is to it! The sky is the limit on creating designs with markers on mugs. Have fun with it!!

I found the mugs at the thrift store (just $0.50 each!) but you could also try the dollar store

I used to work at a toy store and we did free personalization of various things (lap trays, piggy banks, etc.) and we used the painters. SUPER fun!
