What is it about small crafts that make them just so cute?! I have a mini embroidery hoop and a little shamrock was the perfect thing to fill it with – it turned out perfect. And I have a tutorial for you on how to make this mini Shamrock Hoop Art (it fits in the palm of my hand) – – as part of the Lifestyle Studios team.
Cute, right?! I love the simplicity of it.
And it’s pretty easy to put together and just takes a few minutes – the longest part is the hand stitching, but you can do that while you watch the Olympics, so perfect.
You’ll need:
–an embroidery hoop
–small square of neutral fabric (mine is oatmeal in color)
–small square of green fabric
–shamrock diecut or printed template (or you can freehand it)
First, cut your shamrock. You print an image off and cut it out and use it as a template. I used a diecut I had on hand from Lifestyle Crafts. I just placed it on my magnetic mat and hand-cranked it through my Evolution machine:
With fabric, overall it cuts it but there were a few spots where I needed to clip it with scissors.
Then attach the shamrock to the neutral fabric – you could use a glue stick or fabric glue or fusible interfacing (that’s what I used because I had it on hand). Then hoop up neutral fabric and cut away the excess.
Now it’s time to add the embroidery. Just a few stitches around the edge adds tons of depth and personality to the craft.
I liked how each petal of the shamrock formed a heart, so I made my stitches outline the heart shape of each petal.
And then I made a little stem with the embroidery as well. Here’s a view of the hand stitches:

Very cute project but not a Shamrock. The Shamrock was chosen to represent Ireland because of the 3 leaves representing the Trinity. Hope you don’t mind me pointing this out. The real problem is that many, many commercial products make the same mistake so how can the average non Irish individual know the difference? (I am only Irish through marriage but have to carry the name forward with my children)
