Future Careers (Take Your Child to Work, The Game of Life game)

Did you know that national Take Your Child to Work Day is coming up?? it’s this Thursday! The first time my kiddos got to participate with Trevor was last year (before that his work didn’t allow outside guests). They had a blast learning all out the ins and outs of his job, along with interviewing several other people in different job positions at his company. I love that they could get a glimpse into future careers!

They had a great time doing many activities – here’s a snippet of their questionnaire from last year, after a full day of being at the company:

1. What job would you most like to do? Why did you like it?

· I would like to be a project manager because I would work with construction.

· Vice President because you’re second in command.

· The receptionist because I get my desk at the very front.

· Receptionist because you get to meet people.

· I would like to be the Shop Foreman or Electrician because those are hands on and always making things.

5. What is one thing you learned that surprised you?

· That the kitchen is small.

· The giant printer.

· There are more girl workers than I thought.

· There was a popcorn machine.

· Everyone loved their job and didn’t complain.

I love that they got to look at careers! Can’t wait to see what they do this year! Meanwhile, we’ve been all about exploring careers (thanks to Hasbro for sponsoring this post) because we’ve been having fun with our latest new game, The Game of Life game.

Games are great way to bring families together and the new career cards in THE GAME OF LIFE can help inspire those parent-kid conversations about what they want to be when they grow-up in a playful, casual way. Another great opportunity to start the conversation is “Take Your Sons and Daughters to work day on April 23” and introduce them to what you do at work. These light-hearted conversations can lead to job-shadowing opportunities, involvement in clubs or organizations that cater to their interests like a cooking class or baseball lessons, and eventually the pursuit of a higher-education degree in the topic somewhere down the road.
