You guys are awesome! I will be chopping off that green skirt soon. I really think I’m growing into my look with your hints and tips. I thought I was dead on with this outfit – the layering (that yellow tank is Anthropologie from the thrift store for $2 – score!), the multiple necklaces, the heels with trouser jeans – I really liked this all!
I find it hilarious that a lot of you are commenting on how I have great style. Really, I come from a history of bad style. Case in point, I’m busting out some clothes from my closet – keep in mind, I go through my closet every few months, but these make the cut every time – why?!? I’ll space them out over the coming weeks, but I’ll start with the gem of them all (don’t stop reading my blog because of the bad fashion you’re about to see!!)
Yes, you can click for a closer view. So, you think this is a hand-me-down or something – but no, I actually purchased the above outfit. We were going on our first cruise and I thought I needed something sequiny for the fancy dinner. Ill-fitting skirt, zip-up sequin gold top. So yep, I wore this and thought it was great. And it’s been in my closet ever since – just in case…..what?!? So I cleared it out today.
Alright, one more:
Jackets are in – but not this one! I think I got it when I graduated college and went shopping with my mom (who convinced me to buy it, I’m sure!) for “professional clothes” for interviews and working. It’s ill-fitting and suede-ish and came with black pants – I’m sure I wore it buttoned up like an outfit. Even though I’ve recently found a love of jackets as I’ve branched out my style, I’m sure this one is not a go.
To show you that I’ve grown, here’s a couple of new things I’ve purchased recently. I ventured into Forever 21 (the music in there is really loud – does that mean I’m old?!?) and found this sweater for $9 – I love it! It’s bulky but still has a great fit. The broach I got off of WhoopdWhoop and I love how it dressed up the sweater for church:
When in Branson for Spring Break we hit several stores at the outlet malls – there were lots of clearance sales, etc – this is a Gap sweater and I think it was $5 – I like it’s length and color, but I could do without the hood (but I still like the sweater):
You are too cute! Love the new sweater from gap and the first outfit.
Oh holy heck you look adorable in the first photo! 🙂
That cruise outfit … yes, you have some a long way! hehe
Love that big sweater too, if I could fit into the sizes at Forever 21 I would love to shop there, they have some fantastic deals!
The first outfit is adorable Perfect, really. And you should have kept the sequined top from the cruise – if you’d lopped off the weirdly long sleeves, you would have had a much more current looking tank top/shell that you could wear with jeans and a little cardi in the summer! Or, you know, fabric for dress-up clothes. Whatever.
It’s funny that you mention that you’re not so comfortable with people complimenting your style, because it’s really ridiculous that I should advise anyone on clothes – I wear a tank top and jeans pretty much every day. Except the days when I wear a t-shirt and jeans. I don’t think I even own a belt. After 5 kids, my waist is not something with which I am still intimately familiar.
You have definitely come a long way in your fashion. And you are very brave for showing us your “before” pictures. I love the $9 sweater from Forever 21 (and yes, the music is loud 😉 Keep up the good work!
This is what I love about WIWW, it gives us all incentive and ideas to be a little more fashionable!
Love that last sweater AND the gray sweater with the black long skirt. Nice. But the brooch? a little scary for me. lol
You’re a brave woman!
I love your first outfit!!

That jacket you had on…the one that is from graduation days…did that ever fit you? It’s huge. It is a cute jacket though. And I’m loving the cruise dress ;). I often wear hand-me-downs and haven’t been shopping in a while but I’ll loving some of the things you have picked up and wondering if it’s about time for me to update my wardrobe.
Love the first outfit. By the way, I’m 25 and I think that the music at Forever 21 is too loud. You’re not alone.
You are toooo cute I also linked up to WIWW!
XOXO Andrea
So I’m really liking that peak of lace under the first outfit! And the pink sweater is AWESOME! Well done on getting rid of some oldies. 🙂 I need to clean out my closet again soon come to think of it…
Don’t blame that one jacket on me, I don’t remember you getting it. Although I do like it.
Mom
Kim, we knew you would! she also got rid of other clothes that “screamed you name”. I knew who she was shopping with!
