RECAP: 2014, year of Change

Tomorrow starts 2015 – wowza, time always seems to fly by, but it’s a fun ride 🙂

Do you have a Word of the Year picked out?  This past year, 2014, was the first year I picked a word.  So I’ve never had a year where I abandoned a word and moved on to a new one.  I’m excited about my new word (stay tuned for that tomorrow) but my word for 2014 was great for me and I hope to continue to embrace change.  Because underneath it all I don’t like change!

Ch-ch-ch-changes…. There were lots in 2014, and I tried to embrace them instead of being scared of them.

To recap, we moved.  We had lived in our previous home for quite a while, and we loved it.  Loved the house, loved the people around us.  It was perfect.  But we felt a pull to the country life – out on a little land, where the kids can explore the woods for hours.  And so we took a leap – we bought 20 acres (I know, crazy?!) and we’re building a house.  In the meantime our home sold quickly and so we embraced change and a new adventure.  We’re living in my parents’ basement as we finish up building our new home.  Meanwhile, Trevor switched jobs to a new company.  The kids started at a new school.  My oldest started Middle School.  My youngest started Kindergarten.  I felt a shift in our phase of life – I’m entering the no-kiddos-home-during-the-day-phase.  And it’s change.  Different.  My grandma moved to be close to us.  I recommitted to better blogging and made some big strides even though they’re scary.  I switched blogging platforms to WordPress (which is funny – here’s a direct quote from myself at the beginning of 2014:  Blog changes  – – yes, I’m still on Blogger, and yes, I plan to stay (again, remember, I’m afraid of change – I like the known, and I like blogger!) – but I do think it’s time for a layout redesign and refresh.  That’ll be coming soon.  I know lots of you are like me and don’t like when blogs change, so stick with me, it’ll be great.  And then yep, I ended up switching from Blogger – but really I still love blogger.  I wrote about that here: Blogger v. WordPress).  I felt the need for change, to slow down, and wrote all about avoiding the glorification of busy.

And so yep, I think change has made us better.  New situations, new perspective, new outlook.  It’s been a crazy year – I like to refer to 2014 as the year of crazy.  But it’s been great.  Because of change.
